Configuring Web Proxy Settings for Tableau Server

If your organization uses a web proxy, the Tableau Server Run As user may not be configured to use this proxy when requesting content from the Internet.
To configure Tableau Server to use a proxy web server, you must have the following:
  • An existing Tableau Server installation.
  • A Tableau Server Run As user with interactive login rights. The Tableau Server Run As user is listed on the General tab of the Tableau Server Configuration window. To access it, click Start All Programs >Tableau Server Configure Tableau Server.
Review this document with your local network or system administrator before configuring Tableau Server to use a proxy web server.
Note: If you are using a distributed installation of Tableau Server, perform the following procedure on the primary server and on any worker servers where VizQL processes are running.
To adjust the proxy settings for the Tableau Server Run As user:
  1. Log in to the Windows computer where Tableau Server is installed as the Tableau Server Run As User. This will require this account to have Interactive Login rights during troubleshooting.
  2. Open Control Panel.
  3. In Control Panel, click Network and Internet, and then click Internet Options. This will open the Internet Properties dialog box.
  4. In the Internet Properties dialog box, select the Connections tab, and then click LAN Settings.
  5. In the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog box, do the following:

    1. For Automatic Configuration, clear all selections. Tableau does not support automatic configuration.
    2. For Proxy Server, select Use a proxy server for your LAN, and then type the server address and port. The server address can be a machine name or IP address.
      Notes:
These settings will typically match the regular user settings for Tableau Desktop. If mapped views work from Tableau Desktop, compare the LAN settings for Tableau Server to your Tableau Desktop machine.
Even though these settings typically match, Tableau recommends checking with your local network or system administrator before making these changes.
    3. Click OK.
  6. In the Internet Options dialog box, click OK again to apply the new proxy server settings.
  7. To test that the new configurations are working, open a web browser and test one of the following URLs:
Tableau 8.2 and later versions: Miami and Havana (blue water)Miami and Havana (white water), or Miami and Havana (dark water).
Note: After you have configured the proxy server, you may need to restart Tableau Server to ensure that all changes are implemented. If the URLs above don’t work, your local IT resources may need to troubleshoot the issue using the server address and port listed in this article.
